Competitive
exams in India help build self-confidence and improving skills. They also boost
the ability to think independently and reason logically.
Various competitive
exams (or call them talent search exams) are meant to test student’s academic
competence in different subjects.
Some of these exams also help students know
their strength areas, while some are general in nature (not specific to a
subject).
One such exam is NTSE.
National Talent Search
Examination (NTSE) is a State Level exam conducted by National Council for
Education Research (NCERT) since 1963.
The exam is organized
with the view to find, nurture and encourage talented students by offering
scholarships for pursuing further studies.

A CLASS 10TH STUDENT GIVE NTSE EXAM?
The student of Class 10th
is eligible to appear for NTSE exam.
HOW
TO APPLY FOR NTSE?
In order to apply for
NTSE, a candidate should follow the below procedure:
§ The candidate should
submit the form directly to the State/UT liaison officer only
§ The candidate should
deposit the application fee, if any, prescribed by State/UTs with application
form
§ The candidate should
leave the 4-Digit Centre code blank, to be filled by the liaison officer /
other authorities

- Students can apply for the
exam through the school only. They can download the application form through
the official
website of NTSE.
HOW
MANY STUDENTS GET THROUGH NTSE STAGE I?
There is a quota reserved
for all the States and Universities. The State quota is calculated on the
basis of student enrolment at the secondary level with a minimum of 10 for UTs
and 25 for states.
HOW
MANY SCHOLARSHIPS ARE GIVEN IN NTSE EACH YEAR?
Each year about 1000
scholarships are awarded.
IS
THERE ANY RESERVATION FOR NTSE SCHOLARSHIP?
Yes, there is reservation
for ST (15%), SC (7.5%) and physically challenged students (3%). Only those
students who will earn the minimum qualifying marks under these categories are
eligible for scholarship.
TILL
WHAT LEVEL WILL A CANDIDATE GET NTSE SCHOLARSHIP?
Successful candidates
studying Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Commerce, Vocational
courses will get scholarship up to PhD level. Candidates studying professional
courses in Medicine, Engineering, Technology, Management and Law are eligible
for scholarship up to second degree level.

ONE SEND NTSE STAGE I APPLICATION FORM DIRECTLY TO NCERT?
NCERT does not entertain
direct applications or queries related to Stage I exam.
WHAT
IS THE EXAM PATTERN FOR NTSE STAGE I?

ARE
MARKS SCORED IN STAGE I OF NTSE EXAM INCLUDED IN STAGE II?
No, the first stage
marks are for mere qualification to the next stage.
AFTER
CLEARING STAGE I, WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR STAGE II?
NCERT will convey the
Roll number, venue and the time for national level exam to the selected
students through speed post.
DO
I NEED TO COMMUNICATE MY ADDRESS IN CASE OF CHANGE?
In case of change in
address prior to the NTSE exam, candidate must communicate the same to the
State examining authority, which in turn shall inform NCERT.
WHAT
IF A CANDIDATE WANTS TO CHANGE THE EXAM VENUE AFTER RECEIVING THE APPLICATION?
NCERT does not entertain
any such change in any case. However, in special or exceptional cases, the
center may be changed on a written request received by NCERT 15 days after the
issue of the Admit cards and 10 days prior to the exam. However, in such a
case, test booklet will be provided in English only to the candidate.

CAN
AN INDIAN CANDIDATE STUDYING ABROAD APPEAR FOR NTSE EXAM?
Any student of Indian
nationality studying abroad at the Class 10th level can appear for NTSE
provided they have secured 60% in their previous examination.
CAN
A FOREIGN STUDENT APPEAR FOR NTSE?
Abroad students will
appear in the NTSE center in India at his/her own cost. Such candidates are not
required to appear for Stage I exam. They can send application request through
the head of their institution (along with an attested copy of Class 9th result)
to Head Educational Survey Division, NCERT, New Delhi- 16. If such candidate
clears the exam, he/she shall be granted scholarship for pursuing education in
India only.
SAT
AND MAT TEST BOOKLET IS AVAILABLE IN WHICH LANGUAGES?
The SAT and MAT test
booklets are available in Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada,
Marathi, Malayalam, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telgu and Urdu.
LANGUAGE
TEST IS CONDUCTED IN HOW MANY LANGUAGES? IS LANGUAGE MARKS COUNTED IN THE FINAL
MERIT?
Language test can be
given in either Hindi or English language as per the candidate’s choice. The
language test is qualifying in nature i.e. the marks earned in this exam will
not be counted in the final merit.
IS
THERE ANY SCOPE FOR RECHECKING?
No, there is no provision
for rechecking or re-totaling.
